Here is a little piece that I have played with while having a think about something more serious (that may never come).
We are currently planning to exhibit at the Salon exhibition at the Alphington Community Centre. It was a fabulous event that we participated in last year. We showed framed artwork, work mounted on matboard and cards. Many of our group have exhibited before but it was so wonderful to see others that showed for the very first time. I will let you know when this happens so that you can come along and see what we are making and hopefully you will fall in love with something and buy it.

In a world saturated with images, we borrow, steal, splice, and remix to make sense of the noise. Ctrl + V brings together a group of artists who revel in the cut-and-paste ethos, where scissors are scalpels, glue is intention, and nothing is ever just one thing.
Whether you work with vintage magazines, found photos, Photoshop, or glue stick chaos, we want to see how you slice up the world and reassemble it. This show is about creative disruption, unexpected juxtapositions, and the beauty of fragments.
Opening in May!
Our observational drawing classes on Saturday afternoon and Wednesday evening are going well. Lots of drawings, exercises, using tone to describe a shape, tricks for symmetry if you need it and learning more about materials. Here are some of the drawings completed after either 10minutes or 30minute sessions – I’ve just mixed up some of the two groups together.
I have set up a large round table with objects, fruit and vegetables for each to select for drawing. After exercises to relax the hand we then do some rapid one object drawing, then two objects and then build up to introducing a longer draw or incorporating a new material such as ink, or coloured pencils.
The classes are a lot of fun and we are just about to complete the fourth of five classes. Let me know if you are interested in doing this in the future – possibly in May. I’m in Alphington. annewarrenart@gmail.com
I started a little late with my Summer workshops however they are going so well. I have a Saturday afternoon group and a Wed night group that will meet for five weeks. We did some exercises to relax the hand, some tricks to draw a symmetrical shape (don’t have to of course), used tone to help an object become 3D and have used some smudge stick work for shading – but not too much as it is so easy to just move graphite across the paper and then everything starts to look rather medium when that happens.
Also making some new cards see the formal upholstered chair on a vintage french lexicon page. I have quite a quirky variety of cards here but I can make a commissioned card to order (just give me some guidelines).

Rockpools
My inspiration for the abstracted view of a rockpool was the joy of discovering some of the unexpected and quirky shapes, colours and textures. Each of the rocks depicted are created to bring joy and happiness to the viewer with their surprising bands of colour and embroidery like patternations.
When I looked in rockpools I loved finding a smooth rock or a different coloured rock with a band of colour or a textured lichen covered rock. I have made sizes from 100cm x 100cm down to 30cm x 30cm. I hope you like them as much as I like making them. Very meditative.

I will be showing collage and assemblage at the Gallery shop. Here are a couple of the pieces that will be on display. The woman sitting on the pineapple holding the yellow flower has a little stitching on it and the shakespearean woman is raised in 3D on a book cover called Shakespeare (it was old and damaged I don’t cut up just anything). All three unique pieces will be in the gallery shop with another 14 pieces all of different sizes and subject matter. Oops I almost forgot the hydrangeas are a painting on Arches watercolour paper.

Here are three collage works made to a theme suggested by our group Melbourne Collage Meets. The first prompt and image was wreath or circle, the second was dog and the third was Flinders Street Station (a famous Melbourne landmark). The next two images are acrylic paintings on watercolour paper of hydrangeas with a little pencil work on them.
Our Melbourne Collage Meets group have now been meeting for a few years at a Fairfield Cafe and our newest group in Fitzroy North have been meeting for around 6 months. The latest news is that a new group will be formed very soon, possibly in Ivanhoe or somewhere surrounding this area. If you are interested please know these meetings are free, they are not workshops yet we do influence one another. The only cost would be to buy a coffee and cake or similar to support the cafe we meet at. More information can be supplied if you contact me.
