Collage and Mixed Media Artwork

Here are three collage works made to a theme suggested by our group Melbourne Collage Meets.  The first prompt and image was wreath or circle, the second was dog and the third was Flinders Street Station (a famous Melbourne landmark).  The next two images are acrylic paintings on watercolour paper of hydrangeas with a little pencil work on them.

Our Melbourne Collage Meets group have now been meeting for a few years at a Fairfield Cafe and our newest group in Fitzroy North have been meeting for around 6 months.  The latest news is that a new group will be formed very soon, possibly in Ivanhoe or somewhere surrounding this area.  If you are interested please know these meetings are free, they are not workshops yet we do influence one another.  The only cost would be to buy a coffee and cake or similar to support the cafe we meet at.  More information can be supplied if you contact me.

We would really love you to see what we have been making.

My assemblages are found objects, toys, blocks of wood, scrabble bits etc., from op shops and garage sales and bits and pieces that I have hung on to for years.  I found people were very interested in what I was doing and that they were very generously gifting me some objects to use.

The collage characters are from found images in old books that I have collected for years.  I made a series of these characters about 15 years ago and have just revisited making these again.  I have added some wood blocks on the back of them to give them some distance from the wall which makes for more interesting shapes and shadows.  The character collage works in Fairfield are displayed on blocks because I do not have a wall behind to hang them however blocks can be supplied and more permanently secured to the characters if you wish.  I personally love the lone figure sitting unexpectedly on a wall.

Very, very sadly, I have not been gifted any old books or ephemera with pictures of animals or people or birds or dancers that would be good for collage. 🙁

Mouse.   Character Collage with block attachment on the back as wallart.  $50

Please keep in mind that I am still available to do workshops in art with beginners or more experienced in various Media.  See my pages for works on paper, painting etc.

You can do a one on one class, a one off class, series of four classes or ongoing fortnightly classes to suit your needs.

Thanks for visiting, Wishing you all a fabulous December. 🙂

Melbourne Collage Meets

MCM are a group of artists that started meeting after the covid bans were lifted.  We meet fortnightly at a local cafe and make collage, socialise and we have even had a fundraiser for a selected nearby school.  We absolutely love seeing each other and working together.  We have just come up with future themes rather than last minute ideas.  I’m going to give you a few if you would also like to participate here online.

June

July

-Origami boxes or houses from found images (if anyone can help with a simple pattern please send me).

I just finished a fabulous exhibition at Meeniyan gallery in South Gippsland.  I sold lots of wall assemblages and thought I should stop making these but I can’t help it, still making.  I will post some new ones soon.  They have changed into small free standing sculptures.

I will once again (maybe in Spring) be offering classes (all materials included)  for either wall art or freestanding sculpture using found objects and collage.

Hope to hear from some of you.  Why don’t you give one of the above themes to your child or your Grandmother or friend and get them to contribute too.  I’ll post it for them.
