Melbourne Collage Meets will exhibit soon

Melbourne Collage Meets have a new topic for collage this month.  Patterns is it.

Here is a little piece that I have played with while having a think about something more serious (that may never come).

We are currently planning to exhibit at the Salon exhibition at the Alphington  Community Centre.  It was a fabulous event that we participated in last year.  We showed framed artwork, work mounted on matboard and cards.  Many of our group have exhibited before but it was so wonderful to see others that showed for the very first time.  I will let you know when this happens so that you can come along and see what we are making and hopefully you will fall in love with something and buy it. altered found image

 

It’s Autumn and it’s April 2026

Our collage group has had the theme abstract Autumn for the last two weeks.  Several members of our group will be exhibiting in Ballarat alongside other Ballarat based collage artists at TBH Studio.  Find more information about the exhibition at https://tbhstudio-au.square.site/whats-on

Ctrl + V:
A Collage Exhibition

In a world saturated with images, we borrow, steal, splice, and remix to make sense of the noise. Ctrl + V brings together a group of artists who revel in the cut-and-paste ethos, where scissors are scalpels, glue is intention, and nothing is ever just one thing.

Whether you work with vintage magazines, found photos, Photoshop, or glue stick chaos, we want to see how you slice up the world and reassemble it. This show is about creative disruption, unexpected juxtapositions, and the beauty of fragments.

Drawing Classes in Melbourne

Our observational drawing classes on Saturday afternoon and Wednesday evening are going well.  Lots of drawings, exercises, using tone to describe a shape, tricks for symmetry if you need it and learning more about materials.  Here are some of the drawings completed after either 10minutes or 30minute sessions – I’ve just mixed up some of the two groups together.

I have set up a large round table with objects, fruit and vegetables for each to select for drawing.  After exercises to relax the hand we then do some rapid one object drawing, then two objects and then build up to introducing a longer draw or incorporating a new material such as ink, or coloured pencils.

The classes are a lot of fun and we are just about to complete the fourth of five classes.  Let me know if you are interested in doing this in the future – possibly in May.   I’m in Alphington.    annewarrenart@gmail.com

Rockpools

Abstract Painting on board Rockpools

My inspiration for the abstracted view of a rockpool was the joy of discovering some of the unexpected and quirky shapes, colours and textures.  Each of the rocks depicted are created to bring joy and happiness to the viewer with their surprising bands of colour and embroidery like patternations.

 

When I looked in rockpools I loved finding a smooth rock or a different coloured rock with a band of colour or a textured lichen covered rock.  I have made sizes from 100cm x 100cm down to 30cm x 30cm.  I hope you like them as much as I like making them.  Very meditative.

Painting in Acrylic, sky, painting on canvasI am painting the sky and plan to add some more details including a little colour and more.  I find blues and greens some of the hardest colours to work out or to get just right.  The smaller painting  was for a little girl so I wanted some joy in the blue colour.  The rectangular one is the larger piece.  I had already gone a little too deep with the blue sky which I have rectified below.  It’s not as dark as it looks here.  I have more to do on it before I would say it is finished.

The still-life painting is by Jan.  Jan comes by for workshops with me and paints from scratch or reworks paintings that she had shelved for a long time.  The gorgeous painting below was an old one that now has a new lease of life.
